DESCRIPTION OF THE PERFORMANCE:

It is an intimate, but at the same time dynamic performance on the borderline between the visual and physical theatre. It is a dramatic attempt to face the taboo topic of oncological disease. It is a story about struggle, about everyday battles for dignity, about suffering and pain, about taming the inevitable, deriving joy enchanted in the crumbs of our existence, and about hope...

The performance was inspired by essays of Susan Sontag "Sick as a metaphor" and the philosophy of Karl Jaspers. The idea to create the project "In suspension" was initiated by Marta Paradecka, at the moment when she experienced a borderline situation, which took the form of a disease in her case. "The idea for a dramatic presentation of this situation is also a response to the constantly asked questions by other people about how I feel during the disease." The performance is an epitaph for Marta.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Marta Paradecka - born 24 July1979 - died12 January 2018. Chairperson of Fundacja Sztuka dla Życia (The Art for Life Foundation]). As part of the foundation work, she implemented the project “Kim jesteś - kim jestem? Przeglądam się w twarzach mooch przodków" / "Who are you - who am I? I look at myself in the faces of my ancestors." It concerned cultural heritage, and during the presentation, workshop participants invited viewers on a theatrical journey, into the past of their ancestors. The project ”Sztuka w służbie ducha i ciała" / "Art in the service of the body and spirit” was created in 2017. Within which, she organized free artistic and therapeutic classes addressed to oncology patients. She appeared in several performances of the IOTA Theatre. She was an actress of the Cogitatur Theatre and a co-founder of the A Part Theatre in Katowice. She organized a theatre festival in Połczyn Zdrój (Połczyńskie Impresje Teatralne / Połczyn’s Theatrical Impressions) - the idea, as she said, "came from her head and heart." In Kołobrzeg, she founded the Kontakt Theatre at the Regional Culture Center, with which she staged an Experimental Theatre Form “Szczudłodram" / "Stiltsdrama”. She completed post-graduate studies in Directing at the Children and Youth Theatre at the PWST in Wrocław. Marta supported the idea that the main goal was concentration on Culture and Art as values that give deeper meaning to human life. She was the organizer of many artistic initiatives, she helped, supported, inspired and art accompanied her at every step.

Monika Wachowicz - born in 1978. Actress, theatre instructor and teacher, organiser of theatrical events, previously connected, among others with the Cogitatur Theatre in Katowice. She has also cooperated with the Danish theatre Cantabile 2. She runs her own Studio Ciała I Emocji (Body and Emotion Studio). She appeared in all performances and artistic projects of the A Part Theatre (apart from the solo performances "Kołysanka" / "Lullaby" and "Więzy" / "Bonds"). Coordinator of the International Festival of Performing Arts A Part Theatre, she also runs the Acting Studio of the A Part Theatre. Scholarship holder of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship in the field of culture (2011, 2014).

dr hab. Arti Grabowski - born in 1977. Interdisciplinary artist: performer, actor, director, painter. Graduated from the Fine Art Academy in Kraków, Faculty of Sculpture (Intermedia Atelier, Diploma in Performance). Head of the Performance Arts Studio at the Faculty of Intermedia at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. Curator of International Performer Encounters at the State Art Gallery in Sopot. In the years 2002-2007 he cooperated with the Poznań theatre "Porywacze ciał" ("Kidnappers of Bodies"). In his performative activities he borders on absurd and irony connecting them with vitality and unpredictability of his behaviour; he plays with words, associations and their nonliteral meanings; he surprises audience with a change of mood; he pulls at his spectators' emotions which he later - when necessary - turns into laughter, fear or confusedness only to finally, in a happy ending, serve "good vibes". For past few years he has undertaken over one hundred activities - all of them suggestive, jocular and critical.
